The opposite side includes a statement from the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 that insures your verbal statement of a mobility disability "must be accepted as credible assurance", as well as a list of possible mobility issues.

Our IDs are the same size as a drivers license size and incorporate advanced printing and heat lamination technology using 1 mm laminate. Our production process meets the Department of Transport quality requirements and we employ the same advances printing and lamination equipment used by many state and federal agencies.

Sizing Your Cane

How to Properly Measure and Size Your Cane

Anatomical dimensions may vary, even among individuals of the same height. To receive the most benefit from your cane, it is essential that it be properly sized for your body. If your cane is too long, or too short, it may not provide the necessary support and stability of a cane that is properly sized.

Both methods of sizing your cane (below) assume that you are wearing your standard footwear. Depending on their design, your boots or shoes will add an inch or more to your overall cane length.

For an accurate measurement of your cane’s optimum length, do the following:

1. Stand with your back flat to a wall while wearing your everyday walking shoes,

2. Stand upright, relax your shoulders, and allow your arms to hang with a natural bend (about 15 degrees) at the elbow,

3. Have a second person measure the distance from your wrist joint (between your wrist and forearm) to the floor with a tape measure or yardstick. Note: if you perform this measurement on yourself, it will be inaccurate! The process of reaching across your body to measure yourself destroys the validity of the measurement,

4.Round up the measurement to the nearest ½ inch, and then add an ½”.

If you don't have a second person to aid you in determining the proper measurement for your cane, there is another method:

1. Measure your height when wearing your standard walking shoes. Convert your height into inches.For example, if you are 5’ 10” in your shoes, your height is 70 inches.

2. Divide by two and then add ½ inch to determine your approximate cane size.In our example, if you are 70 inches tall (5’ 10”), your approximate cane size would be 35” plus ½”= 35.5 inches. If you were 64” tall (5’ 4”), your estimated cane length would be 32” plus ½” = 32.5”.

3. This method is usually accurate within one inch of your proper length.

When your cane is properly sized, and you are standing in your walking shoes, the top of your cane should align with your wrist joint.

It you are uncertain of your measurement, always err by making your cane longer. It's a lot easier to cut a cane that is too long, than it is to stretch a cane that is too short! Note: Canes with copper tips (ferrules) cannot be shortened. Be certain of your length before adding a copper tip to your cane order.

I couldn’t be happier

So having limited funds but still wanting a nice cane to use for training and getting around I ordered the octagonal training cane. On the website they say that canes from the mill that aren’t optimal for their premium canes are out in this category. Well I’ll tell you there is a “Very” slight bend in it. Nothing to impede its use and certainly not enough to detract from its good looks. I love this cane and it goes with me everywhere. It may not be as pretty as some of their more expensive offerings but it will get the job done and look quite handsome doing it. When funds are available one of their other offerings is in my future but for now this will be my trusty sidekick. No oum intended

Old Hickory- TSA approved!

Have no fear, your ADA cane ( PP cane) sailed through TSA checkpoint, without raising an eyebrow. One held it for me while I got screened ( I did have a hop ( replacement) And another placed on the conveyer. This trip included both domestic and international flights. You can also board 1st in line as well.
As a non lethal alternative,( I am usually armed) I felt comfortable walking around exploring London, knowing that I had Old Hickory with me. I am sure a traditional ASP, baton etc. would not be received with the laissez-faire security check.

Best canes I've ever found (and I have looked)

I've used a cane as a mobility aid for many years and I have never found a better cane than what Cane masters creates, and I went through many different ones while searching. I particularly appreciate the palm support and how it has evolved over time - it is comfortable and strong. I have taken it in rivers while fly fishing, hiked Yosemite, hit tennis balls for my dog, and it is always up to the task. How long does it take for my cane to be produced?

All of our canes are fully customized. It takes roughly two weeks for us to cut the cane, sand, stain and finish the cane before we get it ready to ship.

How much do the different wood types Weigh?

Weight will slightly differ from cane to cane. That being said, our canes weigh between 1.6lbs and 2.6lbs with Oak 7/8" being at the bottom of the range and Octagonal Thumper Stock Hickory and Octagonal Pure Hickory Heart being at the Heavier end of that range.

What wood type is the strongest?

We look at strength of wood types by the density of the wood. We can calculate it by looking at its specific gravity — dividing the weight of a volume of the wood by the same water volume. A higher number usually means that it is a denser and more robust wood. The number is most useful as a comparison between different species of woods.

- Hickory has a specific gravity of 0.7
- Oak has a specific gravity of between 0.63 and 0.68.

What is the benefit of a Palm Rest?

The Palm rest is a big benefit because it allows you to distribute weight throughout the cane while utilizing it. For people with a back pain, arthritis, bad knees or hips can find a lot of benefit by finding better comfort while using the cane.

Does the Octagonal cane have an Octagonal Crook?

No. The crooks on octagonal canes have a round crook.
